NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is one the most comprehensive university hospitals in the world, with leading specialists in every field of medicine.
The NewYork-Presbyterian Centers on Aging are composed of the geriatrics and gerontology practices at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell
The Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology in the
Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell is
involved in clinical, research, and training activity. The
co-chiefs are Drs. Ron Adelman and Mark Lachs. Various other
clinical and research activities closely related to geriatrics
are conducted in other departments of the academic medical
center, especially in neurology and psychiatry. Key physicians
from these departments hold faculty positions in the Division of
Geriatrics and Gerontologys training programs. In the summer of
1999, the Weill Medical College of Cornell University formed the Weill Cornell Center of Excellence for Aging Research and Clinical Care. Co-led by Drs. Adelman and Lachs,
the Center integrates all geriatrics activities of the
institution.
NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia
At NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, clinical services tailored to the geriatric
population are offered through the Departments of Medicine, Psychiatry,
Neurology, and Social Work. Numerous geriatric research projects are
independently underway through departments of the academic medical
center, including psychiatry and pathology. The Allen Pavilion offers
a Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) Unit, a 23-bed unit designated
for the evaluation and care of geriatric patients.
